• AM Kinders drew and painted fall trees for our letter F page!
• We used a new technique with sponges!
• We played at all new centers
• PM Kinders learned about the letter F and practiced our printing upper and lowercase Fs

Friday, September 27th

Today in AM Kindergarten...

• We learned about the letter F
• We visited the pond by our school with our buddies for Forest Friday!
• We went to the gym to play red light/green light

• What words start with the letter F
• Can you make an upper case and lowercase F?
• What did you and your buddy collect for your design in the forest?
• What does red light/yellow light/green light mean when you're playing red light/green light

With cold weather comes more gear! The best way to make sure your child comes home with all their winter gear each day is to make sure it's labelled :)

Today in Kindergarten...

• We showed off our cutting and gluing skills!
• We had our photos taken for picture day
• We explored some of our beautiful items from nature
• We read "Giraffes Can't Dance" to talk about friendship and not giving up!

• Did you notice anything special in the bin of beautiful nature things? 

Skills you can practice at home:
Zipping zippers independently

Scissor skills - cutting simple shapes or along a dotted line

Wednesday, September 25th

Today in AM Kindergarten...

• We read Peter H. Reynold's "Sky Colour" and painted our own pictures of the sky!
• We watched a Mojo Dojo video all about how our brain is just like a muscle; when we exercise it by learning and doing difficult things, we make it stronger!
• We did a group activity involving hoola hoops, working together, and doing something difficult! 
• Ask your child about this activity!

• What colours do you see in the sky?
• How can you make your brain stronger?

Today in PM Kindergarten...

• We learned all about Canadian hero Terry Fox!
• We did a piece of art in our sketchbooks to show Terry running his Marathon of Hope
• We attended our first assembly with the whole school
• We ran the Terry Fox Run outside with the whole school :)

Today in Kindergarten...

• AM Kinders had gym with Mrs. Miller. They practiced moving in different ways across the gym  and are doing some small dances. 
• AM Kinders learned about Terry Fox. They did an cutting, pasting and coloring activity in their visual journals following this. 
• PM Kinders were read the book 'Sky Colour' by Peter Reynolds. They experimented with watercolor paints. We will paint the sky on Thursday! 
• PM Kinders learned that it is ok to make *mistakes*. Making mistakes helps our brains to develop more wrinkles and helps us to learn and grow. Check out the song below that we danced to after learning about the 'Power of YET'. 
• PM Kinders did a community building activity with a hula hoop! 

Ask your child about...

1. AM Kinder: Who was Terry Fox and what was he trying to do?  Why was he a HERO?
2. AM Kinder: What does a bear crawl look like? What does a crab walk look like? 
3. PM Kinder: Is it ok to make mistakes? 
4. PM Kinder: Can you tell me how you made your sky art today?

Today in Kindergarten...

• We read "The Group Plan"! We talked about what it means to be part of the group plan at school! 
• After going through Kindergarten's things they'd like to learn about in Kindergarten, we found LOTS of interest in the Sky! We looked at pictures of the sky today and used our scientist brains to look and wonder:
• How do the stars twinkle? - Hunter
• Why is the sun so bright? - Cameron
• How does it thunder? - Carter & Jordon
• I wonder why there are planets in the sky? - Ariella
• Why is the sun and the moon sometimes up together? - Emily
• I wonder why the sun goes away at night? - London
• PM Kindergarten sang two songs! "My dog rags", "A few of my Favorite Things" 
• We learned about 3 new centers

• Were you part of the group plan today? What did you do to be part of the group plan?
• What kind of sky pictures did you look at? What do you notice about sky/ 
• Did you play at a new center? Where did you play today? 

Please check your child's folder today, there's a special piece of homework!

Today in Kindergarten...

• AM Kinders practiced a school-wide fire drill. They did such a great job. They knew it was a 'serious' a 'silent' practice and showed how amazing they were at both! 
• AM & PM Kinders went outside for snack. 
• PM Kinders did some YOGA
• AM & PM Kinders learned about some of the things that are the same and different with their peers in class. We drew pictures of these and shared them verbally and visually with our classmates. We also read a book about how it's ok to be the same and different. 

Tuesday, September 17th

Today in Kindergarten...

• We read "What I Like About Me" by Allia Zobel-Nolan
• In our visual journals, we drew pictures about what we like best about ourselves!
• AM Kindergarten went to Phys. Ed.
• PM Kindergarten read a story called "I Can Handle It" with Mrs. Wright!
• We stretched our legs outside for a play after snack time

• AM: What game did you play in Phys. Ed.?
• PM: What center did you play at today? 

***Tomorrow AM Kindergarten will be doing their first practice Fire Drill. We discussed what a fire drill is and why it's important, and did our own practice for the big practice!***

Today in Kindergarten...

• Today was a friendship day! We revisted our bucket-ish art from last week and talked about being bucket fillers!
• AM kinders read a story called "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?". PM Kinders read "How Full is Your Bucket?"
• We drew pictures of how we can be bucket fillers! 
• We played and learned at this week's new centers

Today in Kindergarten...

• PM Kinders were read the book 'Sam and Dave Dig a Hole'. 
• PM Kinders met their Grade 4 buddies and we went on an adventure to a nearby aspen forest to create designs and structures using objects in nature. 
• PM Kinders played at centers. We set a goal as a class that everyone should try to meet a new friend today by introducing themselves! 
• PM Kinders were read a book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?". We discussed what buckets filling and bucket dipping/tipping looked and feels like. 
• PM Kinders did some dancing in class as a group.

• What can they do to fill someone's bucket at home/at school/at the park etc.?
• What would tip someone's bucket?

Today in Kindergarten...

• AM & PM Kinders were read the book 'Ish' by: Peter Reynolds. We painted buckets in our visual journals as a start to our discussions around filling each other's buckets with kind acts and words. 
• AM Kinders went outside for snack and had the opportunity to make new friends and play on our playground structure. 
• PM Kinders had their first session of gym with Mrs. Miller. They did some dancing and moving around in safe ways. 
• AM & PM Kinders participated in centers inside the classroom. 

Ask your child about:

• the book 'Ish'....what was it about?
• what they need to do at the end of the day 'before' they run to their 'person' (high five a teacher)

Today in Kindergarten...

• Due to construction/installation of new equipment on the compound we were unable to go outside in the AM but did go outside in the PM for our snack. Tomorrow we plan to go out for both AM and PM for snack. Dress for the weather. 
• We talked about what the words 'curiosity' and 'wonder' mean. We shared our ideas with our classmates and then drew pictures of them. These curiosities will be explored this year!!! 
• AM Kinders learned a new song 'My Dog Rags'
• AM Kinders did some Yoga in class.

Today in Kindergarten...

• AM and PM Kinder shared what they did over their summer holidays. We drew these pictures in our special visual journals! 
• AM Kinder met their gym teacher, Mrs. Miller. They did some dancing! 
• PM Kinder did some Yoga in class. 
• Tomorrow (weather permitting) we plan to eat our snack outside!

-AM & PM Kinders: What center did they try out? Did they do something nice for a classmate today?  

New 'Important Dates' added to our Website. (right side of screen). 

**Communication Folders were sent home with every child today. These folders will be coming home everyday and should come back to school each day as well. Sometimes they will not have anything in them but they come home in case you need to send something back to school AND they also have some important information taped inside (contact info & website info). Please help your child to remember to show you it each day and to bring it back to school everyday in their backpack.

Today in Kindergarten...

• We made a classroom promise to care for ourselves, each other, and this place! Each student held a special promise gem and we all placed our gems in the classroom promise jar
• We read the story Mat Man. It was all about shapes and how we draw a person
• We drew our first self portrait in our sketchbooks and practiced writing our names
