Thank you so much for the generosity shown this past week. Our students and their families are so thoughtful and we are feeling very loved!

Today in Kindergarten...


  • AM Kinders went to the gym with the entire school and sang Christmas carols
  • AM Kinders were read 2 Christmas Books
  1. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas
  2. The Christmas Quiet Book
  • AM Kinders went outside for their FAB break and had some collaborative SNOW PLAY time
  • AM Kinders participated in a variety of centers. Ask your child which center they went to. 
  • AM Kinders did some 'holiday dancing' in class

*Your child's report card is now available on-line through your CBE account. 

*There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow for students. School resumes Monday January 6th, 2020. HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

*No School Tomorrow for PM Kindergarten

*AM Kinders come to school tomorrow morning and are dismissed at 12:00pm

*Thank you so much to the students and parents who brought in cards and gifts (you didn't have to....but it made our day/week). 
As we won't see our PM Kinders until after the break, we hope you have a memorable and fun-filled holiday spent with your family and friends!

Today in Kindergarten...


  • AM & PM Kinders did some top secret Christmas activities. PM Kinders have come home with a special gift and card to put under their Christmas tree. AM Kinders will get to take their special gift and card home tomorrow. 
  • PM Kinders went to the gym with the school and did some caroling and dancing. 
  • AM & PM Kinders were read the story 'The Polar Express'. If you have never heard of this lovely story...check out the video below!
**If you have not yet paid the fees for our in-school program (occurring Jan.7th)...please pay $6.00 via your online CBE school account. More information regarding this program can be found in our 'important documents' section of our class website. 

PM Kinders kept their black folders at school. The communication folders will have a sleepover here for the winter break. :)

Today in Kindergarten...

  • We did a shape hunt! We looked for triangles and squares in our classroom
  • We did some decorating for a (very secret!) art project
  • AM Kindergarten went to gymsic to sing and dance! 
  • PM Kindergarten went to the gym to do some carolling with the whole school! 
  • We read "Dashing Through the Snow: A Canadian Christmas song"

  • We went to the gym for caroling with the whole school!
  • We did a (very secret!) art project with green paint
  • We read "The Animal's Santa" by Jan Brett
  • We played at new centers!

An important e-mail went home today from our front office regarding report cards:


Report Cards will now be issued electronically on December 19th, 2019. Parents can view the report card through the MyCBE/PowerSchool Portal. Once logged in, you will see an additional tab titled “Report Card”. Select this tab to view the report card.
Should you wish to have a printed report card, please email auburnbay@cbe.ab.caby end of the today  December 16th and it will be sent home with your child on December 19th. 


***IMPORTANT*** PLEASE NOTE: PowerSchool (including report cards) will be inaccessible for, parents and students during winter break as upgrades are installed. The anticipated down time will be from December 20th at approximately 5:00 pm to December-27th, 2019 to 11:59 pm.

Today in Kindergarten...

  • PM Kinders worked on 2  TOP SECRET holiday projects. 
  • PM Kinders 'built a snowman with their buddies help'. This was a communication, following directions, and fine motor activity. Buddies asked their kinder buddies questions and based off their answers indicated what your kinder would draw. 
  • Four representatives from our PM Kinders helped to stuff socks for the Mustard Seed. They worked with some high school students that came to volunteer and stuffed over 100 socks!!! 
  • PM Kinders went outside for some SNOW PLAY today.

Today in Kindergarten...


  • AM & PM Kinders did their full dress rehearsals for the school. Tonight is our Christmas Concert for both AM & PM Kinders. Please have your child at the school between 4:40-4:45pm. 
  • AM Kinders were read the story 'Sneezy the Snowman' by Maureen Wright. They made some excellent predictions throughout the reading!
  • PM Kinders were read the story 'The Three Snow Bears' by Jan Brett
  • AM & PM Kinders participated in centers where they worked on friendship building, communication skills, drawing, recognizing visual groupings of numbers, building hand strength in our playdoh cookie making center, and imaginative play at our Rocket and Sand Winter Wonderland centers. 
**Tomorrow is Miss Lacauta's last day. She will come back to join us for her last half of her practicum in February 2020. It has been wonderful having her in our class.

                                    Today in Kindergarten...

  • AM Kinders went outside for some friendship building SNOW PLAY
  • AM & PM Kinders were able to be an audience member and watch the big kids perform their Christmas concert
  • An important form came home today in your child's communication folder. It is for a special in-school presentation in January. Payment for this program ($6.00) is due by December 18th. 
**Friday December 13th, 2019 is the last day to bring in any donations for our WARM FEET FOR THE STREET. Check out some of these sweet pictures of students shopping for this wonderful initiative:

Today in Kindergarten...


  • AM Kinder practiced recognizing visual groupings of numbers on ‘base ten cards’. They played FACE OFF against a partner and used math language (“6 is bigger than 2....2is smaller than 6”) to determine a winner for each flip. 
  • AM & PM Kinder learned about the letter H and practiced printing this letter in their visual journal 
  • PM Kinder were read the book ‘Sad Santa’
  • PM Kinder went outside for some collaborative SNOW PLAY. 
  • PM Kinder did a shape hunt in the classroom. They looked for items that were rectangular or circle shaped. 
  • Ask your child what Center they went to today!

Today in Kindergarten...

  • AM & PM Kinders completed their 'December' self-portrait page. They practiced printing their name with a capital letter to start followed by lowercase letters. Kinders created a winter scene using their own personal experiences and observations of winter. 
  • We have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas Concert. Kinders are VERY excited to show you how AMAZING they are! Please check our 'Important Dates' section of our class website for dates and times for this!
  • AM Kinders went outside for some collaborative, friendship building SNOW PLAY!
  • PM Kinders were read the book 'Olive the Other Reindeer' by: Vivian Walsh & J. Otto Seibold

Today in Kindergarten...

  • AM Kinders did a shape hunt in the classroom looking for circle and rectangle objects. 
  • AM Kinders went outside for some SNOW PLAY. Lots of imagination and team work occurred building and digging in the snow. 
  • AM Kinders spent some time with their Grade 3 buddies. They worked together to 'build a snowman' by asking and answering some questions about themselves (Snowman Glyph)
  • AM Kinders explored our various classroom centers. Ask your child which center they went to who they played with!

Today in Kindergarten...

  • AM & PM Kinders shared what makes a family, how families are different, and how the most important thing in a family is LOVE! They used 'thinking markers' to draw their family. 
  • AM Kinders went outside for some SNOW PLAY today. 
  • AM & PM Kinders participated in our new centers. Ask your child what center they went to today.
  • PM Kinders went to gym to practice for our upcoming Christmas concert
  • AM & PM Kinders were read the book 'Skating with the Bears' by Andrew Breakspeare.

Today in Kindergarten...

  • M is for Measure! We experimented with weight scales to compare the weight of various items in the classroom
  • We read Todd Parr's "Family Book" and talked all about families. 
  • PM Kindergarten rehearsed for our upcoming Christmas concert (December 12th!)
Ask your Kindie...
  • Pick an item in your kitchen - is that item heavy or light? Can you find something heavier or lighter than your spoon? cup? fork? 
  • What is something that makes our family special? What are some things we like to do together? 


We are supporting the Grade 4 Ambassador club by collecting items for "Warm Feet for the Street"! These items will be used to stuff socks for distribution by the Mustard Seed for the needy. 
Some of the most needed items we ask for are:

  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Chap stick
  • Deodorant
  • Body lotion

  • Here is a link from the Mustard Seed that lists a variety of other items, as well as what they can not accept. If your family would like to contribute, please send your donations before December 13th.

    If you have not yet done so, please send in a family photo, and a printed picture of the outside of your home - we plan to use both next week to study families and shapes! Thanks in advance :) 


    Mustard Seed Collection Information

    Our classes are teaming up with Mrs. Henderson’s grade 4 class to collect donations for Warm Feet for the Street. The grade 4s are stuffing socks with necessities for the Mustard Seed to distribute to the needy this Holiday season.
    If your family would like to participate, we are collecting any of following items:
    - Bus tickets 
    -Extra pair of socks 
    - Travel sizes of shampoo etc. 
    - Kleenex, band-aids 
    -  Toothbrush/toothpaste 
    - Comb, lip balm, skin cream 
    - Disposable razor/shaving cream 
    - Sewing kit 
    - Pen & pad, calendar, address book 
    - Movie passes/gift certificates

    Today in Kindergarten...

    • AM and PM Kindergarten were read the story 'Pick A Pine Tree' By: Patricia Toht
    • AM and PM Kindergarten students shared what their favorite part of the holidays is and drew a picture. 
    • Mia the Silky Chicken came to visit us. With our talk about families we have discussed how animals are a part of our families. Thank you Arya for sharing your newest member of your family with us. Mia is amazing!
    • AM Kinders went to gym to practice their performance for our Christmas concert
    • PM Kinders did a shape review and talked about 'how they know a shape is what they say it is' (what attributes does it have? how many corners? how many sides? etc.)
    • AM and PM Kinders participated in writing Christmas cards to overseas stationed veterans as a way of 'filling other's buckets' during this holiday season. If you want to read more about this initiative...check out the following link -->  VETERAN HOLIDAY CARDS



    Just in case you have not had a chance...we are asking parents/guardians to send in the following to school ASAP

    1. a picture of their family home (on paper, does not have to be in color). Kinders will be using their picture to do a shape hunt. If you are unable to send a picture of your home....any picture of a residence will do :)
    2. a 4x6 picture of your family. We will begin to look the similarities and differences between families. We will also look at different traditions. We will keep these photos within the classroom and they will be incorporated into a family project that your child will be doing.
